Scope

This standard speci-fies the equipment and procedures for determi-ning trace quantities of the water soluble chloride, fluoride, silicate and sodium ions in an aqueous extract of the product. It also describes a procedure for the determination of the pH of the aqueous extract. The standard is applicable to thermal insula-ting products.

NOTE The determination of these parameters may be relevant for thermal insula-ting products intended for application to stainless austenitic steel surfa-ces. The presence of chloride, fluoride, silicate and sodium ions under certain conditions may influen-ce the risk of stress corrosion cracking. See informative annex B for further information.

Directives and Regulations

When the standard is harmonized under a directive or regulation, the word Harmonized appear. When such an inscription does not appear, it means that the standard is related to / supporting the relevant directive or regulation.
