Measuring equipment for electrical and electromagnetic quantities
Measuring equipment for electrical and electromagnetic quantities
To develop European standards for equipment and systems for measuring, testing, monitoring, generating, and analyzing simple and complex electrical and electromagnetic quantities, as well as their calibrators. These standards apply to measuring equipment for industrial, commercial and building electrical installations (networks) always with the aim to preserve the quality of power supply in order to avoid malfunction and overheating of the connected devices, in particular due to an alteration of the mains voltage. The development of harmonized standards is also intended to meet the challenges of controlling energy consumption and is likely to be used as a support to the Technical Bodies involved in the Smart Grid and Smart Metering activities, or to be used as a support for EC Directives. Equipment in the scope of CLC/TC 85X include power meters and power quality instruments, calibrated measurement devices, signal generators, monitoring equipment, recorders and electrical measuring transducers, and devices for testing, measuring or monitoring of protective measures as given by European installation standards, together with their accessories.

To prepare European standards, which are required to facilitate the trading activities of European component users and manufacturers, in the following areas: a) capacitors, fixed and variable, for use in electronic equipment; b) capacitors, resistors and inductors, and combinations of these, used for electro-magnetic interference suppression, and complete electro-magnetic interference suppression filter units; c) networks and passive integrated circuits containing capacitors, or combinations of resistors, capacitors and inductors. Close liaison is maintained with IEC TC 40 which includes parallel voting enabling IEC documents to be adopted in Europe. Liaison is also maintained with relevant IEC Technical Committees, such as 47, 91, 104, and, in the area of safety, 61, 62 and 108, where such liaison will promote the convergence of the two systems. Note : This committee does not deal with - lighting capacitors, which are the responsibility of CLC/TC 34Z; - power capacitors and power filters, which are covered by TC 33 in IEC, and ratified under the parallel vote procedure in Europe.

Resistors
To prepare and maintain European Standards in the field of fixed and variable resistors and networks for use in electronic equipment. These standards are for use within a suitable system for quality assessment of electronic components, and aim to support the trading activities of European component users and manufacturers. Close liaison is maintained with IEC/TC 40, which includes parallel voting on similar documents where possible and enable IEC documents to be adopted in Europe. Co-operation is also maintained with other relevant IEC Technical Committees, such as TC 91 and TC 104, where such co-operation will promote the convergence of the two systems.
