From June 12 to 17, 2023, a regular meeting of the working group WG 21 to ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22 will be held in the city of Varna. The group is engaged in developing and adopting the standards for the C++ programming language. More than 100 world-renowned scientists and practitioners from leading technological companies and organizations from Bulgaria and the world, who are actively writing programming code in C++, will work together on the new version of the programming language (C++ 26). Within the framework of the working meeting, proposals for the development of the standard, as well as current challenges in the IT industry will be discussed.
The official meeting of WG 21 will be preceded by another event - the conference "C++: paths and perspectives", which will be held on June 9, 2023 in Sofia.
Bulgaria is the first country from Eastern Europe to host a meeting of subcommittee SC 22 of the International Standardization Committee ISO/IEC JTC 1 since its foundation in 1989 until now. The preparation for this unique event for Bulgaria began in 2018, when Vasil Vassilev, a C++ technology consultant from Princeton University, managed to present Bulgaria as a key destination for the C++ working group. Partners of the WG 21 meeting in Bulgaria are the software companies Chaos and VMware, as well as the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization.
Until 2018, Bulgaria had no official representation in the C++ working group. Today, the national committee BDS/TC 57 "Information and Communication Technologies" is an active member of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22. At the moment, nominated experts from Bulgaria in the working group are leading developers evaluating each transformation of C++.
The "C++: paths and perspectives" conference planned for June 9 is dedicated to the development of standards for the C++ programming language. During the event, representatives of the Bulgarian group of experts at ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22 for C++ will discuss how the local technological community can participate in the creation of the future standards. Guests at the conference will be the creator of the C++ programming language and professor of computer science at the Columbia University in New York Bjarne Stroustrup and working group Library Evolution Chair of the International Committee for Standardization ISO/IEC JTC 1/SС 22 for C++ and Principal Architect at NVIDIA Bryce Adelstein Lelbach. The professionals with many years of experience in working with C++ Vasil Vassilev, Peter Dimov, Stanimir Lukanov, Vassil Keremidchiev, Ivan Komitov and Mihail Mihailov, as well as Iren Dabizheva, managing director of the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization, will participate in the discussion. The discussion is organized by the software companies VMware and Chaos in partnership with the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".
Software developers, representatives of Bulgarian companies and universities can take part in the open meeting. The conference will be held in "Vitosha" hall of the Inter Expo Center on June 9 at 4:00 p.m. Free prior registration will be required for participation.
